BHHPA Scotland Annual Conference 2023

We were delighted to attend the British Holiday and Home Parks Association Scotland conference of 2023 in Edinburgh recently. Pictured below (Left) is our Respitality manager Kerry Donaghy, alongside Lucy who runs Respitality in Glasgow.

In addition to hosting an exhibition stand, we managed to catch up with several of our supporters from the industry and enjoyed some great chats with some potential donors. We were also able to immerse ourselves in the fantastic programme. This included a ministerial address from MSP Richard Lochhead, delivering a powerful insight into the contribution that holiday parks make to Scottish tourism.

And after several years of lovely donations, we were delighted to finally have a chance to meet face to face with Peter Davies (pictured below right) from Abbeyford Leisure, one of our valued donors!  After a great chat, Peter kindly donated another two self-catering donations for 2024. Thanks again for your continued involvement, commitment and support for Respitality, Peter!

Christmas break at the Panto

Christmas just wouldn’t be quite the same without a trip to the Pantomine! This carer gave us some feedback on their recent day out with their family...

"I was gifted tickets for the Panto at the Macroberts Centre, Stirling.  I attended with 2 of my children Holly (12) and Joe(14). Joe has ASD and ADHD. My sister accompanied me also which is a great support, in case Joe needed additional attention, there is always someone there with my daughter to carry on watching the performance undisturbed.

It was a real treat as financially it meant we were able to enjoy a Christmas activity without eating into our normal budget. There was ample parking available at the event - we were even able to take advantage of a disabled spot which meant we entered the performance without an increased risk to Joe's safety.

The performance was relaxed so we were not made to feel awkward in any way when Joe’s behaviour became erratic. We were also gifted some ice-cream which Ami arranged for us to collect vouchers at the ticket office which was a very smooth process.  The children also got a choice of flavours which suited Joe’s selective food choices.  It was lovely to spend time together doing something that everyone thoroughly enjoyed - plenty of belly laughs and for once a night out together without a hitch!"

Our global friends.....

Did you know that Respitality originated in the United States of America? The origins of our initiative means that we are always keen to not only share what we learn, but gain insight into the different ways that models like Respitality are developed across the world.

We recently met with some of our Global Network partners from England and Canada, and discussed the various ways that social tourism can benefit unpaid carers, as well as some of the challenges faced.
