Respitality in the news

We were delighted when the BBC team reported on our partnership with Falkirk Foundation, Falkirk Football Team and Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre. This partnership has resulted in over 1,000 football tickets and food/beverage vouchers given out to over 200 carers and their families to allow them to attend every home game this season.

We would like to express our gratitude to Siobhann, Aiden, Lynne and Roy who kindly agreed to be a part of this coverage, as well as our amazing partners at Falkirk & Clackmannanshire, Falkirk Foundation, Falkirk Football Club and their fans who have supported Respitality and made these amazing moments happen for carers across Falkirk.

Respitality on the Road

We have had a fantastic few months networking and attending various events in the tourism and leisure industry, including ScotHot and the Falkirk Foundation Recognition Awards night. It is a real honour to be invited to these events, as we reconnect with old friends and make some new ones as we tell everyone how they can help to make carers' days across Scotland.

Keep an eye on our social media to see where else we will be popping up in future!

Carers Week - 5th - 11th June 2023

The theme for Carers Week 2023 is recognising and supporting carers in the community

Our delivery partners have lots of special events planned for this theme that will include Respitality. Some examples are daily prize draws in Falkirk & Clackmannanshire, taster sessions of tai chi and holistic sessions in Lanarkshire as well as lunches with speakers in all four of the Western Isles!

At Respitality HQ, we are hosting our Edinburgh Napier University Respitality research showcase event during Carers Week which will be a great insight into how our Scottish model works and what learning can be taken and implemented. The closing date to register is the end of this month if you would like to join us in person or online.

Carer testimonial - Geraldine*

Geraldine and her partner care for their children who are both diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Geraldine contacted Falkirk & Clackmannanshire Carers Centre as they were experiencing high stress levels and struggling more with the demands of her caring role, as their children's behaviours have recently become more challenging.

During an update of Geraldine's Adult Support Plan, it was identified that the caring role was having a substantial impact on many areas of her life and her goal was to achieve a break from the caring role. However, Geraldine and her partner felt emotionally torn at having a break without their children. After several discussions, Geraldine was supported to explore the possibility of a break away with her partner. Geraldine was looking for a rural retreat which was not too far from home where they could relax with their partner and their pet - one of our newer donors Brucefield Estate was identified as a perfect fit.

Geraldine was supported to book a date in January that was special for her and her partner. They arrived on the Friday afternoon, and were met by the welcoming staff who guided them to their tranquil Schenbothie accommodation. Brucefield Estate had also provided a welcome hamper which included locally sourced products which Geraldine found to be an overwhelmingly beautiful gesture.

Geraldine had a relaxing first night, where they lit the wood burner and relaxed with a few games of cards. Geraldine and her partner had a fantastic sleep in the luxury super king bed before setting off on Saturday for local adventure walks with their dog. Geraldine and her partner even managed an afternoon nap which was a luxury for them. They were able to have a fantastic, relaxing break and was able to switch off from the demands of life with no TV, no social media, or any other demands.

Geraldine explained that Brucefield Estate was only twenty minutes from their home, but they felt as though they could have been a million miles away. This did alleviate their concern of any issues with their children, as they knew they were only a short distance away in case of an emergency.
